About
I know that vast numbers of random people post their opinions about films online, and I guess I’m sort of one of them, but the difference is I have formal education on the subject. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Popular Culture, with a minor in Folklore, but also with something of a concentration in Film Studies. (I minored in Film for three years, but changed at the last minute.)
As the name screensnob tends to suggest, I am very picky about what I like and don’t like, but that’s not to say that I’m necessarily elitist. Films don’t have to be artsy High Culture to be good. Some of my favorite movies are indeed, cinematically, unintellectual pieces of crap. For example, Office Space can never hope to compare with Citizen Kane. Yet both are genius. Likewise, there are some highly regarded and canonised films/people I just cannot stand (A Clockwork Orange, Quentin Tarantino, etc. The list is short but severe.). But nonetheless I love film, and I love to pick them apart and, without being conceited, I’m pretty good at it, too. The times I’ve been told to shut up or that I ruin movies by friends who have watched films with me are countless. So hopefully I can do something constructive with my education and my talent, and share some insight into films before you go spending £6.50 per person at the cinema and leave regretting that you just wasted good money, as well as an hour and a half of your life, on complete crap.
